In September 2019 I started a post graduate certificate (PGCert) in Medical Ultrasound at the University of Derby.
The aim of the course was to become competent in the use of diagnostic ultrasound so I would be able to scan climbing injuries within our clinic.
Luckily, the vast majority of the teaching and lectures took place face to face at the University prior to the Corona Virus outbreak in March 2020.
Our clinic is classed as an essential healthcare provider and we have been able to keep our doors open whilst sticking to government guidelines.
Over the last 18 months I have scanned over 150 climbers which has included a wide variety of different climbing injuries.
The ability to look underneath the skin and dynamically visualise muscle, bone, tendons and ligaments has greatly increased the accuracy of diagnosis.
Also within the last 18 months I have started to work with members of Team GB Climbing as well as members of the Moon Climbing team which has given a great insight to the world of elite level climbing.
Thanks to my mentor Dr Adrian Lim as well as those climbers who initially volunteered to allow me to practice scanning techniques.
Hope everyone is keeping well.
